Infinix Zero Ultra 5G Review: Big on Numbers, Tiny on Experience

Infinix is a brand that recently entered the Indian market and promised to provide cutting-edge technology at an affordable price. The latest device in their portfolio, the Infinix Zero Ultra 5G, is their first 5G handset and seems to pack quite a punch on paper. Let’s take a look and find out if it truly lives up to its promise.

Design and Build Quality

The Zero Ultra 5G is one of the slimmest and lightest phones on the market, measuring only 7.9mm in thickness and weighing at an exceptionally light 165g. It also has a curved back panel for improved grip, and comes in a variety of colours. Despite its slim form factor, the device doesn’t feel cheap or flimsy, and is rather luxurious.

Display

The display on the Infinix Zero Ultra 5G measures 6.81 inches diagonally and comes with a full HD resolution. The screen itself is punchy and vibrant, with good viewing angles and crisp details. It is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

Performance

The device is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 888 processor and is paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The device runs on Android 11, and it is quite smooth and fast in everyday use. Multitasking is a breeze, and gaming performance is satisfactory too.

Cameras

The Infinix Zero Ultra 5G features three cameras on the back – a 48MP main snapper, a 8MP ultra-wide lens and a 2MP depth sensor. The camera performance is surprisingly impressive and one can take some decent shots in good lighting. In low-light, however, the results are rather mediocre. The selfie camera is a 16MP shooter and it takes pretty decent shots as well.

Battery

The Infinix Zero Ultra 5G is equipped with a huge 5,000mAh battery which can easily last an entire day with moderate usage. It comes with support for fast charging as well, allowing users to charge their phone to 50% in under half an hour.

Verdict

The Infinix Zero Ultra 5G is a decent mid-range phone and a great attempt from the brand to enter the upper mid-range market. It is well-designed, has a great display and performs quite well for its price. The battery life is also impressive. However, there are drawbacks such as the low-light camera experience, and the fact that there is no IP rating for water and dust resistance. Still, it is a good value-for-money proposition, and hence it is recommended.

Pros:

  • Sleek and lightweight design
  • Sharp and vibrant display
  • Smooth performance
  • Good battery life

Cons:

  • Mediocre low-light camera performance
  • No IP rating

Infinix, a budget-friendly offshoot of Chinese electronics manufacturer, Transsion Holdings, has recently unveiled its flagship product, the Infinix Zero Ultra 5G. The device comes with a huge list of specs, a large display and 5G capabilities, all of which promise a high-end mobile experience, but can it deliver? To answer this question, let us take a closer look at the numbers and review the experiences that it has to offer.

To begin with, the device features a 6.67-inch display with an impressive 1080 x 2400 resolution. A dual rear camera system made up of a 64MP primary lens and an 8MP ultra-wide lens is also included. A triple rear flash helps in low-light photography. On the front, there is a 32MP selfie camera with HDR capabilities. In terms of internals, the Infinix Zero Ultra 5G is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 800U processor, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. A 4500 mAh battery keeps the device running for up to two days on a single charge.

The Infinix Zero Ultra 5G is also up-to-date in terms of networking capabilities. It supports 5G network connectivity which should provide a reliable connection and high-speed data transfer. It also comes with dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and an IR blaster.

However, these impressive numbers are overshadowed when it comes to actual user experience. This is primarily due to its user interface, the XOS 7.0, which is based on Android 10, and is plagued with poor optimization. Animations seem to lag at times and the device struggles to keep up with the demands of intensive tasks. The phone also gets quite hot during regular use which leads to further performance issues. Also, the camera does not perform as good as one would hope for, since it struggles to produce images with accurate color reproduction and sharpness.

To sum it up, the Infinix Zero Ultra 5G comes with some impressive specs, a large display and 5G network capabilities, all of which give the impression of a premium mobile experience. However, this does not translate well into reality since the user experience is marred by the poorly optimized UI and the lackluster camera performance. It is a good device for its price but it would be wise to look at its competitors as there are many phones that offer better user experiences.
