Earth College of Layout and IIT Delhi hosted the 3rd Global Meeting on Functional Textiles and Apparel (FTC 2023) from 10-12 February 2023 at LHC 111, Lecture Corridor Complicated, IIT Delhi, Hauz Khas, New Delhi. The inaugural session was performed on Saturday, 11 February 2023.

The conference was attended by experts from the disciplines of Design, Fashion & Life Sciences to showcase their projects, discuss the latest advancements in textiles and exchange globally informed perspectives on textiles.

The three day conference consisted of various panel discussions and interactive sessions on a range of topics associated with textiles. These topics included ‘Accreditation in Textiles & Fashion Design Education’, ‘Contemporary Disciplinary Shifts into Life Sciences & Regenerated Fibres’, ‘Sustainability & Economy of Textile Design’ and ‘Re-defining Textiles & Integrated Manufacturing’, among others.

The participants discussed the latest trends in textile design, future opportunities for students, the need for more creative collaborations between industry and academia and how research and technology can be merged with design to deliver innovative solutions. The technical discussions enabled the exchange of advanced concepts, critical analysis and understanding of design approaches.

Moreover, at the conference, various delegates presented their research works and case studies. These included a study on using artificial intelligence in textile design, a project on sustainable water droplets technology, a study on the use of 3-D printing in textiles and a project on eco-friendly textiles and apparel.

In addition to the knowledge exchange, the conference featured an exhibition of fashion apparel and home textile products, which showcased the latest design trends and techniques.

The conference was a great platform for networking and exchanges and was a successful effort by WUD to bring together experts, entrepreneurs and students from the textiles industry on a single platform.
