BITS Pilani forays into lawful education with BITS Regulation School in Better Mumbai. Resource website link On May 4, 2021, Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS) launched its BITS Law School (BLS) in Mumbai. BLS is India’s first autonomous law school, established under the aegis of BITS Pilani, one of India’s premier educational institutions. The inauguration ceremony was held in the presence of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Vice Chancellor of BITS Pilani, Prof Rajeev Sangal, Registrar Prof Dr. Vinay K. Vaish, Director of Law School, Prof. Dr. R.P. Gupta and Mrs. Sangita Jindal, Chairperson of BITS Pilani.

The mission of the School is to bring a global standard of legal education to the highest levels which will focus on the development of all aspects of law including research, teaching and professional practices. The course offerings at BLS emphasize on the human-centered approach to legal education as they will create legal professionals who are competent, socially responsible and emotionally intelligent, who can contribute in the field of law, justice and governance.

The School will offer three programmes namely B.A.LL.B (Hons.), LL.M and research. BLS will be India’s first private law school to offer an international student exchange programme along with internships and field visits for the students. BLS also aims to advance the legal fraternity by introducing innovative research and training projects, short courses and CPD programmes for legal professionals.

At the inauguration, CM Uddhav Thackeray spoke highly of the School, he said that the School is not only an exciting educational institution but a great initiative that will offer opportunities to aspiring law students. He further expressed his gratitude to the BITS Pilani for providing the city with a Centre of Legal Education.

The inauguration of BLS certainly marks a transformational milestone in India’s legal education infrastructure as the School will bring to the table, a wealth of opportunities for aspiring legal professionals and institutions.
