Resource link In order to respond to the ever-growing need for electric vehicle mechanics, community colleges in New Hampshire have stepped up to the challenge of providing training. This proactive move is helping to provide the necessary education and technical expertise in an area where there is a pressing demand.
The New Hampshire Community College system is in the process of creating an electric vehicle technician certificate program, which will provide an opportunity for those interested in the field to receive the technical knowledge and skills needed to become certified electric vehicle technicians. The program entails 180 hours of instruction, covering topics ranging from fundamentals of electricity and basic electronics to the technical operation and maintenance of electric vehicles.
The program is designed to develop the technical knowledge of both new and experienced technicians with classroom lecture and lab components. The courses also include hands-on, practical exercises in order to ensure that students are comfortable working with electric vehicles prior to obtaining their certificate. Upon completion of the program, students have the opportunity to earn various certifications and industry credentials.
The increasing popularity of electric vehicles and their growing use has resulted in a heightened demand for qualified technicians who can service and repair this new breed of vehicles. According to an article recently published by NPR, “Nationally, there is an estimated 3,000 unfilled positions for electric vehicle technicians, with estimates of that number growing to as many as 25,000 new jobs by 2025.”
New Hampshire community colleges are helping to fill this need by providing the opportunity for students to receive the training and certifications necessary to become successful electric vehicle technicians. They are also providing students with the tools and resources needed to enter a new and rapidly-growing industry. By doing so, they are helping to ensure that trained professionals are available to meet the burgeoning demand for electric vehicle technicians.
