The minister said India is now well positioned to become a telecom backbone for the world, as the country has developed 4G and 5G stacks that allow mobile network operators to securely launch services over their networks.

Prasad said India has made rapid progress in developing the digital infrastructure for its citizens and businesses, with the government investing more than Rs.50,000 crore ($7 billion) in the sector in the current financial year.

He noted that the Indian government has taken the lead in adopting 5G techology and launching 5G networks, with Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) having already formulated the draft policy for the rollout of 5G services.

The Communications Minister said that India is also investing in international submarine cable projects that will provide faster bandwidth and make the country more connected in terms of media, content delivery and better quality video streaming services.

The government is also working towards providing fiber to every village and home in the country over the next three years. Prasad said India should leverage its telecom infrastructure to become an exporter of telecom services and technologies.
