IIT Madras Floats Interdisciplinary Dual Degree On Quantitative Finance

Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has launched a new Interdisciplinary Dual Degree (IDDD) programme on ‘Quantitative Finance.’ This training course would be jointly offered by Departments of Administration Scientific tests, Laptop Science and Engineering and Arithmetic for BTech dual degree learners.

The IDDD on quantitative Finance training course is open to undergraduate pupils of all branches of engineering disciplines at IIT Madras. Present learners can opt for to go after the IDDD on Quantitative Finance from the Sixth Semester. The study course will have an ingestion of 25 college students. The very first batch of pupils would be becoming a member of on Jan 2023. 

The study course has been intended to empower learners to additional effortlessly adapt to new developments in finance and bridge the hole involving the software of present day products and approach technologies and finance. The program requires comparatively intensive use of quantitative techniques and theoretical reasoning.

This new dual degree program involves specialized studies for advanced finance and gives students an interdisciplinary background in both quantitative finance and applied mathematics, drawing on the existing strengths in both domains at IIT Madras. The program seeks to groom future financial engineers, data scientists, algorithm developers, actuaries and quantitative risk managers, through an intricate program of study.

The criteria for admission to the dual degree program is a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, sciences, economics or an equivalent qualification with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate. Furthermore, the selected candidates will have to appear for the GRE (Graduate Record Examination) or GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) and qualify with a minimum valid score to be eligible for admission.

The specially designed curriculum of the program includes courses like econometrics, mathematical finance and financial engineering, as well as interdisciplinary courses such as biostatistics, cryptography, machine learning and machine learning with big data analytics. Along with advanced courses related to quantitative methods, students will also have the opportunity to choose courses from other IIT Madras departments such as economics, computer sciences and humanities. This will enable them to broaden and deepen their understanding of both finance and mathematics.

The dual degree program will equip the students with the knowledge and technical skills required to assume data-driven roles and develop quantitative models for making financial investments, analyzing financial markets and planning effective strategies for risk management.

The M.S. and M.B.A. in Quantitative Finance will be offered as a three-year program, with the students completing the first year at IIT Madras before moving on to the University of Chicago Booth School of Business for the second and third year of the program.
