Dr. Marianne Barkley, a well-known leader of the school district, used her vacation time this summer to take a step back and refocus her goals. Dr. Barkley decided to take a two week trip to different parts of the United States, visiting with educators and learners alike.
Her primary mission: to better understand the pains and successes of the educational system in the U.S. While visiting various learning institutions, Dr. Barkley listened to administrators, teachers, and students share their thoughts on the current state of education. Through these conversations, Dr. Barkley gained invaluable intelligence and knowledge.
Upon her return, Dr. Barkley was better informed and more prepared to strive towards creating an optimal learning environment. She discussed her experience and intended projects in a district-wide assembly. Through her travels, she was able to gain new perspectives, and formulate ways to bring innovative practices to the district which she serves.
Dr. Barkley’s decision to use her time for such a purpose is commendable. By shifting her perspective and seeking to seek out the unique needs of learners, she exemplifies the highest level of leadership within the education system. Her insight and ideas are certain to be the catalyst for positive change within her district and beyond.
