In Fire Emblem, support conversations help make characters more likeable by showing a side of them that might not be shown much in the main story.

A cool thing that many recent Fire Emblem games have in common is that the player can build relationships between their units by unlocking what are called Support Conversations. The newest game in the series, Fire Emblem Engage, which came out on January 20, 2023, does not lack in any way in this area.

You can listen to these conversations while in the Somniel to learn more about the characters and their pasts. A lot of the characters wouldn’t be as interesting if they didn’t talk to each other. As in all games, some conversations stand out more than others and may tell you more about some characters’ stories.

Panette And Merrin

Panette And Merrin

The relationship between the two people who keep the Timerra is on the lighter side. Their support comes from the fact that they want to learn to sing, but Panette tells Merrin that their singing voices made them known as the “Racket of Solm.” So that they don’t bother anyone else, they decide to sing quietly from then on. In the next support, Panette says that no one has said anything bad about their singing. This makes them happy at first, but then Merrin says that they shouldn’t try to hide their voices and should just work to get better.

Their last help comes from Timerra, who tells them to improve their singing in a way that is hard to understand, but they do it anyway. They now want to be known as the “Sirens of Solm.”

Clanne And Vander

Clanne And Vander

Vander is a strict person who gives Clanne a lot of orders that don’t seem to have anything to do with Clanne’s job as a Steward in the service of the Divine Dragon. This bothers Clanne because he has trouble taking these jobs seriously. He doesn’t understand why Vander keeps giving him these jobs. He’s always willing to go the extra mile because he thinks Vander might not trust him.

Clanne finally asks him if he just thinks of him as a messenger, which makes Vander wonder what he means. In their last talk, Vander apologizes to Clanne and tells him that the work he does, even though it seems boring, is a big part of a Steward’s job.

Alear And Seadall

Alear And Seadall

As Alear walks up to Seadall as Seadall is doing some nighttime dance practice, the two strike up a supportive chat. Alear asks Seadall if he is practicing his dance, but Seadall says that he is actually dancing for the moon and stars because he thinks that dead people become stars. He thinks that one of these stars is his late dance teacher, who taught him how to dance.

The next time they see each other, Alear sees Seadall looking at his cards to see if he can eat the fried dough he wants. When his cards say no, and Alear tries to get him to eat anyway, he leaves, saying that he has to be disciplined for his dancing. In their last conversation, Alear convinces Seadall that he needs to be happy inside in order for his dancing to be beautiful. Seadall agrees to improve himself and listens to the Divine Dragon’s advice.

Celine And Alcryst

Celine And Alcryst

This Support Conversation begins after Celine had a dream that her brother Alfred had died. She says that this dream keeps happening because Alfred has a chronic illness, even though it doesn’t affect him as much as it used to. Then Alcryst tells her that he, too, often dreams that someone steals his brother, Diamant. During their three support conversations, these two second heirs to their kingdoms bond over their bad dreams.

Their Support Discussions naturally progress in this direction, and in their most recent one, Alcryst promises Celine that he would defend Alfred in addition to fighting for their siblings.

Alcryst And Ivy

Alcryst And Ivy

Both of these characters come from Kingdoms that are at odds with each other, so their first Support Conversations are very tense. Alcryst partly blames Ivy for the death of his father because of what happened before Ivy joined the group and the part she played. When Ivy sees Alcryst, she decides to tell him she’s sorry about the death of his father and hopes they can find something they have in common, even though their countries have a history of fighting.

Their Support Conversations keep going, and Alcryst says that Brodia’s repeated invasions have also hurt Elusia in Slope Game. At the end of their last Support Conversation, they say they want to solve the problems that are affecting both of their countries and that they will work to make sure that Elusia and Brodia can one day be friends instead of foes. Both get closer to each other and value each other more.

Céline And Alfred

Céline And Alfred

Celine unexpectedly interrupts Alfred as he is practicing by digging a deep hole, and thus begins her support of the two siblings from the Kingdom of Firene’s. Celine is confused, so she asks him what he’s doing. He tells her that he’s digging a well for the kitchen staff, who have been complaining that they don’t have enough water. Celine then calls him a “Barbarian in Prince’s Clothes” because of his over-the-top actions like digging wells and hot springs, which Alfred takes as a compliment.

In their final Support Talk, we hear that Alfred is training outside despite being in excruciating agony. It turns out that he is having a flare-up of his old, long-term illness, which is why he trains so hard. In the end, Alfred and Celine make a promise to each other that they will be there for each other, both for themselves and for Firene.

The Nintendo Switch can now play Fire Emblem Engage.
