Overview

The Samsung prototype 360-degree foldable display is set to redefine the smartphone and tablet industry. With its flexible and foldable design, this device is set to revolutionize the way we use portable devices by offering a unique combination of features and benefits. It is sure to become a popular pick among consumers who would like to enjoy the convenience of a foldable and flexible device. Samsung, the South Korean technology giant, has been showcasing a prototype ‘Flex in and Out’ 360-degree foldable display, as part of its efforts to present its recent research on flexible displays. According to a report by Industry News (IN), the display technology was unveiled during a presentation at the Samsung Developer Conference.

The display, which can both fold and fit into a small device has been labeled as the world’s first ever 360-degree axis folding display. In order to create this display, Samsung employed a form factor called ‘S-Fold’, which is essentially a three-dimensional symmetric folding technology. It can both fold inwards, and outwards and is capable of folding multiple times in both directions.

The presentation showcased a prototype device with what the company is calling “Infinity Flex” display. The device has a screen size of 7.3 inches, along with 359ppi and an image aspect ratio of 21:9. As part of the setup, Samsung also used different layers of polymers to ensure the device’s durability.

What sets Samsung’s ‘Flex in and Out’ technology apart is the fact that it makes use of a unique 3D hinge mechanism that can fold and unfold on all four sides. This makes it different from the current folding display found in some Samsung smartphones like the Galaxy Fold.

According to reports, the company is planning to commercially launch this device during the first half of 2019. However, there is still no information regarding the pricing or exact launch date of the device. The company is also reportedly planning to release a new Platform OS for game developers so that they can create compatible games for the device.

The ‘Flex in and Out’ technology from Samsung could potentially revolutionize the smartphone market and set a new trend for foldable devices. We can only wait and watch to see how this technology will be received in the market when it is finally released.
