To aid in navigating this difficult time, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) recently welcomed new chief executive officer Narcisa Polonio. In a recent interview, Polonio discussed her aspirations and plans to help propel education into a new era.
When asked about her plans as ASCD’s CEO, Polonio highlighted her past work leading successful education initiatives, such as developing alternative assessment models and reimagining technology in the classroom. She is particularly looking forward to furthering the organization’s goal of creating equity in education. “My vision is to create an education system that works for every student and recognizes that each learner comes with a different set of needs and skills,” she said.
Regarding specific initiatives, Polonio discussed ASCD’s focus on developing professional learning opportunities that promote collaboration and innovative strategies among educators. Among other measures, Polonio plans to leverage her previous work to provide educators with meaningful resources on how to effectively use educational technology, develop remote learning models, and meet the various individual needs of their students.
In addition, Polonio repeatedly underscored the importance of listening to teachers. She is especially keen to provide ASCD members with a platform “where they can share their ideas and expertise to help students, schools, and districts bridge the digital divide and provide students access to necessary resources” and also foster collaboration among educators.
Overall, Polonio is excited to have an opportunity to help shape the future of education. “My goal is to make sure ASCD is leading the conversation and providing the support and guidance needed to ensure all students have access to the best education available and the tools to achieve their dreams,” she said. With this mission in mind, Polonio looks forward to helping move the field of education forward.
