Source website link The Mount Ida College of Art (MICA) has announced the establishment of three Chair Professorships that will be named after three of the school’s founding fathers. Founding president Dr. Will Henry Stevens, Founding Dean Dr. Reuben Kramer, and Founding Trustee Dr. William Francis Heard have all been selected to have their names honored with these prestigious chairs.
The aim of these Chair Professorships is to both honor the original vision and contributions of these pioneering leaders and create a legacy of excellence and innovation at MICA. The three esteemed men were among the first to recognize the importance of art and design in modern society and pushed to create an institution that would prepare and inspire future leaders in the field.
The chair holders will be distinguished members of the MICA faculty and will be expected to lead initiatives that build lasting connections between the school and the wider art, design and culture communities. They will also bring their own artistic and scholarly visions to the college, exploring and fostering areas of research that will help promote and further the college’s commitment to creativity and discovery.
MICA Provost Roy Girard commented in a press release, “These Chair Professorships will serve to pay homage to our school’s very first leaders, while ensuring that their impact and influence will endure for generations to come. MICA will be firmly rooted in our founders’ pursuit of creative excellence, while looking to the future with bright new ideas and bold initiatives.”
The inaugural chairs will be named at a special ceremony this semester and the first instructor appointed to each of the chairs will be honored at the same time. As MICA celebrates the 150th anniversary of its founding this year, we plan to honor these pioneering leaders by continuing their commitment to art, design, and the importance of an artist’s vision.
