DARPA to Discover How AI Equipment Can Assist Coach Adult Learners
Competitors open for $750,000 in awards proposal abstracts because of Dec. 18, 2022
The Protection Superior Analysis Undertaking Agency (DARPA), an arm of the U.S. Section of Protection (DOD), is taking proposals to contend for $750,000 in awards to establish projects that use progressive AI strategies, such as self-directed, remote AI tutoring, to coach grownups for the existing and long run nationwide protection workforce.
DARPA is inviting technologists, researchers, students (which include minors), academics, and “creators of electronic understanding platforms or reducing-edge AI methods to suggest AI instruments or technologies that can deal with the significant problems dealing with adult learners,” the agency explained. Prosperous tools will request to create tailored new competencies mastering experiences aimed at older people who have finished postsecondary instruction. Go through the DARPA AI Equipment for Adult Studying FAQ for far more information.
The opposition is open up to U.S. citizens, everlasting people, or U.S. entities. Non-U.S. members can participate as aspect of a crew but are not eligible to instantly acquire any portion of an award. Go listed here to fill out an eligibility quiz.
There are three award levels:
- Catalyst ($50,000): aimed at new contributors, which includes pupils, instructors, civic technologists, or individuals who need that preliminary spark of assist to get began.
- Advancement ($100,000): for teams that have a minimum amount viable solution with some buyers upon which their new idea will create.
- Remodel ($250,000): for teams with an proven platform with far more than 10,000 customers upon which the new concept will construct.
Teams that qualify for the greater awards can compete for lesser awards if their task is in the beginning levels.
The deadline to post abstracts is Dec. 18. 2022. A absolutely free engineering neighborhood virtual networking conference is held the next Wednesday of each and every month at 1 p.m. EST. The subsequent just one will be held Dec. 14, 2022. Read through more about DARPA listed here.
Resource link The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) plans to research how new Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools can help to better train adult learners. The project, which DARPA calls “Exploring Augmentation and Robotic Assisted Training (EXART),” is focused on using AI-based tools to create “an adaptive, interactive, and social platform that promotes the personalization of instruction delivery to better meet the needs of adult learners.”
The current higher education system, especially for adult learners, does not cater to their specific needs and preferences for learning, or leverage modern technologies such as AI to help customize their learning experience. Traditional learning systems are often seen as rigid and limited in their reach and effectiveness. As such, DARPA’s EXART project seeks to explore how AI tools can help improve training for adult learners and thereby promote better job and life outcomes for them.
EXART will investigate the development and fielding of a range of technologies, such as automated tutoring systems, virtual and augmented reality and robotics for teaching, gaming for learning, and personalized instruction using natural language processing algorithms. These technologies, it is expected, will improve the motivation and engagement of adult learners, and the flexibility and effectiveness of their learning experience.
DARPA intends to work with universities, industry, and other stakeholders to help explore how such technologies can be best developed, tested, and deployed, as well as to evaluate their impact on adult learners’ success. The project will be managed through DARPA’s Data-Driven Discovery of Models (D3M) program, and DARPA will host a virtual industry event in July of 2021, after which it will review proposals and select a number of the most promising projects for further development.
The innovative approaches that the project hopes to uncover through leveraging the power of AI have the potential to be a game changer in adult learners’ approaches to education and training. Ultimately, by providing both the value of traditional education and the flexibility of modern technology, EXART is expected to enable adult learners to become more effective and engaged learners as they work to improve both their lives and their careers.
